bb low resWe asked American burlesque star and Beauty and the Beast’s very own Julie Atlas Muz to answer our 11 Questions…

You play Beauty in Beauty and the Beast, can you describe your character in three words?
Naive, Curious, sexual.

What are you usually doing 10 minutes before the show begins?
10 minutes before the show I am either dancing to the preshow punk rock track or                                                                               panicking putting on eyelashes.

What is your favourite play (seen, read or worked on)?
Jr Black’s Office, the first play I performed in NYC. We performed 23 second story windows of an office building in lower Manhattan, the audience stood across the street and listened to the sound track on a pirate FM radio station. This was the first collaborative show of chashama.

What is your favourite word?
Estacionamiento is my favorite sounding word, but it means parking lot in Spanish. My favorite French word is jouissance which means orgasmic joy and my favorite English/American word for the moment is yogurt.

What are you most passionate about?
Dance and feminism.

If you could be in a room full of any one thing, what would it be?
My best friends in NYC all dressed up having a party, Bambi the Mermaid, Dirty Martini, Tigger, Bunny Love, Pinkie Special just to name a few.

Favourite holiday you’ve ever been on?
A Volga River Cruise with my mother or Tulum, Mexico with Mat in 2011.

Favourite city and why?
New York City, because it is the best place on earth, duh!

What is your favourite song?
Oh god there are so many and it changes all the time. Carless Whisper by WHAM and She’s Lost Control Again by Joy Division, Gay Bar by Electric Six and so many more. I love it all, except Celtic Music.

If you could have been born in any era, which would it be and why?
I would like to have been at my peak age in the 1970s: great fashion, sexual revolution, birth of disco, PUNK, pre AIDS, drug revolution, the best of times and the worst of time, all with central heating and hot water.

If you could have any one supernatural power which would you choose and why?
I would choose invisible flight. I have always fantasized about that ever since I read it in Master and Margarite and it sounds like fun!
