Puppeteer and performer Jonny Dixon answers our 11 Questions ahead of Beauty and the Beast’s arrival at the Young Vic next week….
Can you describe your character in Beauty and the Beast in three words?
Right Hand Man.
What are you usually doing 10 minutes before the show begins?
Cutting out paper rose petals.
What is your favourite midnight snack?
Is whisky a snack?
What are you most passionate about?
Right now it’s building a 90ft steel houseboat from scratch… it’s a ridiculously ambitious project, kind of an agony and ecstasy thing! She’ll be a beauty when she’s finished though.
If days were 28 hours long, what would you do with the 4 extra hours?
Er… an hour learning guitar, an hour drawing, an hour cooking new recipes… and an extra hour in bed!
If you could be in a room full of any one thing, what would it be?
People I love.
Favourite holiday you’ve ever been on?
Exploring the Borneo rainforest… awesome.
Favourite city and why?
I love Florence… amazing atmosphere and completely crammed with stunning art, architecture and history. Great food and wine too! (Barcelona is a close second for the same reasons).
Dogs or cats?
If you could have been born in any era, which would it be and why?I reckon I’d make a good Victorian explorer (the ‘Bohemian artist’ type rather than the ‘shoot it and bring it back home to stuff it’ type!)
If you could have any one supernatural power which would you choose and why?
Flight, without a doubt. It’s been a while since I’ve had a flying dream but I always wake up smiling afterwards.
Beauty and the Beast runs at the Young Vic from 4 – 21 December. Click here to book tickets or to find out more.
